Fayetteville State, Winston-Salem State Lead CIAA Preseason Hoops Favorites
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) unveiled its preseason poll, placing Fayetteville State and Winston‑Salem State at the top of the men’s basketball rankings. Both programs return a core of senior leaders and have added several impact transfers, positioning them as early favorites for the conference title. The poll reflects coaches’ confidence in Fayetteville State’s defensive intensity and Winston‑Salem State’s up‑tempo offense. With the regular season set to begin in late October, the two schools will look to translate preseason expectations into a deep tournament run, while other CIAA members aim to upset the projected order of finish.

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association released its preseason All‑Conference selections and predicted order of finish for the 2026‑27 men’s basketball season. Winston‑Salem State and Fayetteville State were named the top two finishers, while standout players such as guard Jamal Harris (Winston‑Salem) earned first‑team honors. The announcement, made at CIAA Basketball Media Day, sets the narrative for a conference that consistently produces deep NCAA tournament runs. Coaches and players will look to translate these preseason accolades into on‑court success.
